Oscar winner Viola Davis has a big and illustrious career, so we assumed her home would be grand as well. But we were pleasantly surprised to see that Viola has been living in a surprisingly normal (by Hollywood standards) abode for the past decade. Her five-bedroom, five-bath property sits in a picturesque neighborhood with close-packed houses in Granada Hills, CA, far from the hubbub of Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

It seems, however, that the actress is ready for bigger things, as the stucco home was just listed with broker John Mazziotta of Re/Max Olson & Associates for $1.19 million, which is just a touch over the $1.17 million Viola is said to have paid for it in 2005. The property boasts nearly 4,000 square feet of living space, including a top-of-the-line kitchen, a living room with large windows, soaring ceilings, a sprawling master suite, and a gracious dining room. With its lagoon pool and spa, built-in barbecue, and dining terrace, the backyard is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of shooting How to Get Away With Murder. Check out the charming property ahead.

After seeing how beautifully the Obamas decorated the private White House living quarters with interior designer Michael Smith, it's hard to imagine the space looking any better - but the new residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue have just shared their plans to overhaul the space to their personal taste. Melania Trump has hired interior designer Tham Kannalikham, a Laotian-American designer known for having a classical aesthetic and keeping a low profile. A surprising choice considering the Trumps are not known for their subdued taste or their discretion.

In a statement to WWD, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, senior adviser to the first lady said, "Mrs. Trump has a deep appreciation for the historical aspects of the White House and with Tham's traditional design and expertise, they are focusing on a seamless integration of elegance and comfort into where the president, the first lady, and Barron will be spending their family time and calling their home."

While the Trump's New York residence, where Melania and 10-year-old Barron are currently living during the week, is notoriously sheathed in gold, we think the Trumps' presidential quarters will be more toned down. Before heading...

If you've ever admired a hydrangea bush blooming in all sorts of pastel shades, you'll be happy to know that the look is achieved by a simple science trick! You can actually change the color of your hydrangeas - making them pink, blue, or ethereal shades of periwinkle - by following these steps. Here's how to master the pastel rainbow effect:

  1. Make Sure You Have the Right Type of Hydrangea
Only hydrangea macrophylla (aka mopheads and lacecaps) can actually change color, so make sure you buy the right kind.
  2. Measure the Soil pH
It's easy - we promise! Use a soil test kit to figure out your soil pH levels. To get blue flowers, you'll want your soil to be acidic with pH levels of 5.5 or lower. For pink flowers, you'll want more alkaline soil with pH levels of 6.5 or higher. To achieve that pretty palette of blue, pink, and purple hues, get your soil to a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5.
  3. Adjust the pH Levels of Your Soil to Get the Color You Want
Bailey's Color Me Blue (soil sulfur) or Bailey's Color Me Pink (garden lime) are great for adjusting pH levels, but you can also use a few homemade tricks, like using composted oak leaves, pine needles, or...

There's an Ikea hack for every style, thanks to Swedish company Bemz. The slipcover company, founded by Lesley Pennington, has over 300 fabrics for customers to choose from. "We want to take people on a journey that will allow them to do something creative with their home," Pennington says.

When you buy a Bemz product, you're buying something created by a pretty impressive female entrepreneur. Pennington, originally from Canada, studied Fine Art at the University of Toronto and worked at Apple in Silicon Valley before moving to Stockholm. She has called Sweden her home for over 20 years now. It was in Stockholm that she came up with the idea for Bemz in 2005. While re-furnishing her family's home, she looked for an easy way to re-cover her Ikea sofa to match her style. When she couldn't find any good options, she created a company that would do just that.

Choosing a slipcover for an Ikea piece comes with many practical benefits. For one, they're machine washable. Bemz slipcovers are also custom made on demand, which helps cut down on waste, making them eco-friendly. In addition, the company uses quality, natural fabrics, like linens and cotton. "We think our products are...

When you gaze upon the landscape of this couple's neglected bedroom - a mattress strewn across a basic bed frame, nonexistent curtains, tired carpeted floors, and a mismatched second-hand dresser - the idea of decorating it feels completely overwhelming. Instead of taking the easy way out and shutting the door to hide their bedroom, the couple called in design pro Monica Mangin, who tackled it on Lowe's original series The Weekender.

The bedroom overhaul included replacing the carpet with laminated wood flooring and creating a breathtaking DIY shibori wallpaper accent wall. After that, it was all about the decor. While we tend to think of Lowe's more for home project supplies rather than decor, we were blown away by all the beautiful and reasonably priced goods the retailer supplied to outfit the space. Keep reading to get an up-close look at the vibrant, modern bedroom and everything in it.

Jackie Kennedy isn't just a beloved former First Lady; she's a legendary style icon, and her incredible taste goes far beyond fashion.

When John and Jackie Kennedy took over 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in 1961, the new First Lady worked to infuse their temporary home with elevated art and refined design. Drawing from her love of French culture and style, Jackie enlisted French interior designer Stéphane Boudin to transform the Red Room, the Lincoln Sitting Room, the Blue Room, and the Treaty Room into impressive spaces worthy of European aristocrats.

To execute the private upstairs quarters, Jackie used the same American designer, Sister Parish, who had decorated their house in Georgetown to warm these family spaces. "I want our private quarters to be heaven for us naturally - but use as much of [the Eisenhowers'] stuff as possible and buy as little new as I want to spend lots of my budget below in the public rooms, which people see and will do you and I proud!" Jackie wrote in a letter to Sister before the restorations began. But within the first two weeks, the pair had already spent their $50,000 budget on just the personal areas.

In addition to adding a private kitchen,...

HomeGoods might feel like your little secret since you unearth so many astoundingly affordable designer decor treasures there, but the secret is out: TJX Cos., parent company to HomeGoods, Marshalls, and T.J.Maxx, has cornered the market in off-price products. The company's just-announced fourth-quarter earnings report showed impressive growth despite challenging marketplace conditions. And their growth in the home sector in particular shows that decor-lovers are flocking to HomeGoods in droves, scooping up everything from servingware to wall art.

To capitalize on their winning retail formula, TJX Cos. president and CEO Ernie Herrman just announced that they will be launching a new home concept store similar to HomeGoods in the year ahead. "While we are proud to have grown our HomeGoods customer base for many years, we believe we remain significantly underpenetrated in total U.S. home market and enormous opportunity remains for us to grow market share in this space. Our customers are passionate about home goods and we are confident they will love our new home concept, too," Fox Business reports Ernie stated on the company's earnings call. The company plans to add even more...

Everything else is a wildcard - there's no predicting which house somebody will choose or how their home renovation will go! One thing we do know, though, is the emotional process of watching an episode of the fan-favorite home makeover show. It's an emotional roller coaster of anxiety, hilarity, envy, and pure awe. No one knows better than HGTV's Scott McGillivray that every kitchen has a unique set of issues and challenges. In this small kitchen, Scott was tasked with accommodating an eating area, full set of appliances, and tons of storage, all while keeping it as open, airy, and clutter-free as possible. "When I was working on this small-space kitchen I incorporated as much storage as I could," he explains. Keep reading below to find out in his words, exactly how he did it.

Island

The homeowner didn't want upper cabinets so I hid some in the base of the island and then implemented my special trick. Hidden behind each of these single front panels is a drawer within a drawer. What I love about these is that you can use every bit of space, and almost double the amount of storage you would have if it were just a regular cabinet with a shelf. It's easy to access the back of the shelves, and you maximize every inch.

Sink

The sink is probably the best feature in this entire kitchen. Not only is it huge, it has graduated ledges on the sides so you can fit its custom cutting board, colander, dish pan and drying rack - either one at a time or several at once. It becomes a functional workstation...
